Sellew said the idea came to him while reading Telegram & Gazette articles several months ago about the uncertain fate of the Summer Nationals in Worcester. "That's when I first thought of doing something in our town on a smaller scale that would be a benefit for our community," Mr. Sellew said. "The buzz around town is we are going to have quite a turnout." That's good news because the event is expected to cost an estimated $8,000, some of which is needed to hire two EMTs, six police officers and two firefighters for safety and security. Oliver Howlett is donating use of his property, and adjacent businesses have contributed by donating funds and space. "This event is huge for us; this will really get us moving," said Assistant Animal Control Officer Lisa A. Westwell, noting it's all about the strays and "providing a safe, clean facility, while these animals are in our care."
