Byline: Angela Randazzo Daily News Staff Writer

While the dance hall gals are doing the cancan cancan (kăn`kăn), a lively French dance marked chiefly by high kicking. It was developed in Paris in the 1830s and became a popular social dance there. By the mid-19th cent. it was incorporated into dance revues and stage productions. , the pioneer women keep a sharp eye on their peers, creating a rivalry all in fun in ``Wagon Wheels Wagon Wheels are a popular biscuit in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom which have a marshmallow centre and are covered in a chocolate flavoured coating. They are produced and distributed by Burton's Foods.  West,'' a musical spoof of the old West.

The play will continue tonight and through the weekend at Simi Valley High School Simi Valley High School is a secondary school located in Simi Valley, California which was established in 1920 as the first high school in the valley. It nestles in the Santa Susana Mountains and is adjacent to the San Fernando Valley, part of the city and county of Ventura. .

``The students get to play really fun parts,'' said Sharon Crane, the school's drama teacher. ``The show is a melodrama and the broader it's played, the better.''

``Wagon Wheels West'' tells the tale of a wagon train that breaks down at Whistling Skull Rock, just outside the tiny town of Vinegar Bottle. Three goofy outlaws, played by Kara Kara (kär`ə), river, c.140 mi (230 km) long, NE European and NW Siberian Russia. It flows N from the N Urals into the Kara Sea, forming part of the traditional border between European and Asian Russia. It is navigable in its lower course.  Fried, Jered Bradbury and Robert Merrit, promptly rob the passengers.

``I'm the dumbest outlaw of the outlaws,'' said Bradbury, 17, who is also the assistant director. ``We're kinda like dumb, dumber and dumbest. The part is really fun. I get to make the audience laugh and that makes me feel good.''

The show's hero, straight-shootin' wagon master Chuck Wagon, played by Sam Lang, is accused of stealing the loot. Of course his sweetheart, Miss Candy Kane, performed by Lea Schache, knows better, as does his trusty sidekick, Wild Bill Hiccup hiccup or hiccough, involuntary spasmodic contraction of the diaphragm followed by a sharp intake of air, which is abruptly stopped by a sudden, involuntary closing of the glottis (opening between the vocal cords); the consequent blocking of air , played by Jeff Allery.

As the good guys scramble to save Chuck Wagon from the Hangin' Tree, the townspeople are having a good old time. The colorful characters include Celementine Splinters and her little brother, Dusty, played by Heather Hillstrom and Greg Hozinsky; Senorita Juanita Fandango fandango (făndăng`gō), ancient Spanish dance, probably of Moorish origin, that came into Europe in the 17th cent. It is in triple time and is danced by a single couple to the accompaniment of castanets, guitar, and songs sung by the , played by Julia Madrigal madrigal, name for two different forms of Italian music, one related to the poetic madrigal in the 14th cent., the other the most common form of secular vocal music in the 16th cent. ; Lt. The choreography was done by students Kara Fried and Jacey Weaver with vocal assistance by the school's music teacher, Cynthia Baum.

``Wagon Wheels West'' is the last production of the school year and for some graduating seniors like Schache, it's a bittersweet bittersweet, name for two unrelated plants, belonging to different families, both fall-fruiting woody vines sometimes cultivated for their decorative scarlet berries.  experience.

``I'm going to miss it here,'' said Schache. ``Being in this show and all the other shows has been a great experience. I've really learned a lot.''

In addition to the show, a barbecue chicken dinner, prepared by Home Economic Club students, will be offered before the evening performances today and Saturday. The school's vice principal, Steve Pietrolungo, will act as chef.

``It's going to be a riot,'' said Crane. ``Everybody can bring their kids and have a good time.''
