Robert Bucksbaum of the Reel Source forecasting service has projected a $22 million Friday-Sunday take, topping the $17.5 million expected from Paramount's opening of the Nicolas Cage thriller ``Snake Eyes.'' Should the results match projections, they will validate Miramax's decision in June to move the low-cost film up from its original Aug. 28 opening to compete directly against the major summer releases while moviegoing remains at a peak. Typically, horror films suffer steep declines after their opening weekends, but Curtis' star power and the strong interest in stab-fest films among young-adult moviegoers may keep the seventh version of ``Halloween'' near the top of the box office through August. During the past two years, a trio of beauty-vs.-psychopath projects - Miramax's ``Scream'' and ``Scream 2'' and Sony's ``I Know What You Did Last Summer'' - generated close to $300 million at the domestic box office, leading to massive studio profits. Sony will take another whack whack - According to arch-hacker James Gosling, to "...modify a program with no idea whatsoever how it works." (See whacker.)
