Adam Finlay, who plays Nathan Detroit, said the musical is a change of pace from the school's past productions, such as ``The Wiz'' and ``Fame.''

``This is more like a `Dick Tracy' kind of style,'' said Finlay, 16. ``It's a big change from what's been done before.''

The musical, which opened at the 46th Street Theatre in New York in 1950, is about two love affairs, the first between compulsive gambler Nathan Detroit and the leading dancer at the ``Hot Box,'' Miss Adelaide. ``We knew we had the right talent to do this play,'' Robertson said.

While there have been occasional snags along the way, Robertson is certain the production will be a success.

``Typically, there's never enough time to do everything,'' Robertson said. ``Every director needs another week - but we hope it will all pull together, as it usually does.''
