`GRASS' FIRE IN VALLEY HOME BLAZE LEADS TO DISCOVERY.

CHATSWORTH -- Fire swept through a large, two-story home Monday that had been converted into a greenhouse to grow marijuana marijuana or marihuana, drug obtained from the flowering tops, stems, and leaves of the hemp plant, Cannabis sativa (see hemp) or C. indica; the latter species can withstand colder climates. , authorities said.

 in the early morning blaze in the 10800 block of N. Independence Avenue, which caused damage to the front of the home, fire officials said. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.

The interior of the home had been turned into a greenhouse, with high-intensity light and watering systems, Eddy said. Nobody lived there, but neighbors told police they would often see people come and go.

More than 80 firefighters took about 35 minutes to put out the blaze.
