`GOTTI': A TV MOVIE TO SWEAR BY.Byline: Keith Marder Daily News Television Writer If, for some reason, the F key was jammed on the keyboards used to write the made-for-HBO movie, ``Gotti,'' the one-hour, 58-minute film would have turned out to be a five-minute short. In the ``Scarface'' tradition, the profanity Irreverence towards sacred things; particularly, an irreverent or blasphemous use of the name of God. Vulgar, irreverent, or coarse language. The use of certain profane or obscene language on the radio or television is a federal offense, but in other situations, profanity that begins with ``F'' is used as a verb, a noun, an adjective, an adverb adverb: see part of speech; adjective. and, most definitely, a dangling participle Noun 1. dangling participle - a participle (usually at the beginning of a sentence) apparently modifying a word other than the word intended: e.g., `flying across the country' in `flying across the country the Rockies came into view' . The movie, which premieres at 9 tonight, chronicles Gotti's run through the ranks of the Cosa Nostra Cosa Nostra secret organization akin to the Mafia; operates in the U.S. [Am. Hist.: Misc.] See : Gangsterism . He broke time-honored rules to become the boss of New York's biggest crime family, yet complains that a world without people like him is a more dangerous world because no one follows the rules. Early on in his underworld career, Gotti ordered the killing of a thug who worked for a high-ranking mobster, which is a major no-no. He later orchestrated the bloody murder of Mafia Don Paul Castellano outside of Sparks Steak House Sparks Steak House is located at 210 East 46th Street between Second & Third Avenues in Midtown Manhattan. The restaurant opened in 1966 and moved to its current location in 1977 (it was originally on East 18th Street). It was founded by brothers Pat and Mike Ceetta. in midtown Manhattan. It was against Mafia rules to kill a boss without approval from the five-family ``Commission.'' Gotti went on to become the most public underworld figure since Al Capone as this killer became a celebrity. He was eventually done in by his associate Sammy ``The Bull'' Gravano, who broke the Mafia's first rule himself by making a deal with the FBI to give up Gotti and the rest of the mob in exchange for a light sentence and entrance into the witness protection program. Gotti is played convincingly by Armand Assante. Anthony Quinn, who says he has had personal contact with Gotti and was a guest at his final trial, plays Neil Dellacroce, a high-ranking mobster. The movie is interesting, but it fails to lend any insight into what motivated Gotti to become killer/family man/media celebrity. You never really learn why he curses so damn much.
