`FRASIER' ON HIATUS; STAR ENTERS BETTY FORD CENTER ASSOCIATED PRESS.


Kelsey Grammer Allen Kelsey Grammer (born February 21, 1955) is a six-time Emmy and a two-time Golden Globe-winning American actor best known for his two-decade portrayal of psychiatrist Dr. , star of the Emmy-winning comedy ``Frasier,'' checked into the Betty Ford Center for substance abuse and the NBC-TV series is on temporary hold, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The developments follow a weekend crash in which Grammer flipped his red Dodge Viper The Dodge Viper is a V10-powered sportscar manufactured by the Dodge division of Chrysler Corporation. ``The producers and cast of `Frasier,' as well as Kelsey's friends and colleagues at the studio and network, support his decision and wish him a speedy recovery,'' the ``Frasier'' statement said.

Grammer has had other brushes with the law.

He was taken to court in 1990 for probation violations stemming from a 1987 arrest for drunk driving and a 1988 arrest for cocaine possession.
