Curtin (September 9 1922 – December 3 2000) was an American composer and music producer, the main musical director for the Hanna-Barbera animation studio from its beginnings with The Ruff & Reddy Show in 1957 until his retirement in 1986. , composer of theme songs for such cartoons as ``The Flintstones,'' died on Sunday. He was 78. Curtin had a long association with animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, whom he first met in 1957 when Curtin was recording music he had written for a national commercial Hanna and Barbera were producing. Curtin's first cartoon collaboration was for ``Ruff and Reddy.'' Hanna and Barbera wrote the lyrics for the theme song, and Curtin composed the music. Their collaboration on theme songs worked in this way for three decades. ``Hoyt never failed to create a distinctive musical theme, perfectly capturing the feeling of every show he worked on,'' said Jean MacCurdy, president of Warner Bros.
