`Evening for Iveta' Friday.

There's probably not a figure skater east of the Mississippi who doesn't know Iveta Ice, a world-class coach who has called the New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt.  Sports Center and Marlboro home for the last eight years.

At 7 p.m. Friday, skaters from around the world -- U.S. champions and Olympians included -- will skate in "An Evening for Iveta." Proceeds from the show at the NESC NESC National Electrical Safety Code

NESC National Energy Software Center (obsolete; see ESTSC)
NESC National Elite Sports Council (Australia) 
 will go to the Iveta Ice Fund to assist with medical and family expenses.

The show will include some of the biggest names in the sport, including three-time national champion and Olympian Johnny Weir John G. "Johnny" Weir (born July 2, 1984 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania) is an American figure skater. He is a three-time U.S. national champion (2004-2006) and the 2007 national bronze medalist. He is currently ranked 9th in the world. , four-time national ice dance champions Tanith Belbin Tanith Jessica Louise Belbin (born July 11, 1984 in Kingston, Ontario) is a Canadian-American ice dancer. Though she holds dual citizenship, she competes for the United States and has competed for the U.S. since she began skating with Benjamin Agosto in 1998.  and Ben Agosto, and four-time national ice dance silver medalists Melissa Gregory Melissa Gregory (born May 22, 1981) is an American figure skater. She was born in Highland Park, IL to a Catholic father and a Jewish mother. She first skated at age seven. She currently competes in ice dance with Denis Petukhov.  and Denis Petukhov Denis Petukhov (born October 6, 1978 in Kirov, Russia) is an American figure skater. He currently competes in ice dance with Melissa Gregory. They joined forces on the ice in 2000 and were married in 2001. They have won four silver medals and two bronze medals at the U.S. .

National pairs champions Brooke Castile Brooke Castile (born on May 31, 1986 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American pairs figure skater. Her partner is Benjamin Okolski. They are the 2007 U.S. National Champions. Competitive highlights

 and Ben Okolski will also take part, along with national ice dance bronze medalists Meryl Davis Meryl Davis (born January 1, 1987), is an American ice dancer. With partner Charlie White, she is the 2007 U.S. national bronze medalists. Davis and White teamed up in 1997 and they are currently the longest lasting dance team in the United States.  and Charlie White, "Ice Princess" star Juliana Cannarozzo Juliana Cannarozzo (born 27 August 1989 in Boston, Massachusetts) is an American figure skater and actress. She has won two gold medals on the 2006 ISU Junior Grand Prix, which qualified for the 2006 Junior Grand Prix Final, where she placed seventh.
, British ice dance champions Sinead and John Kerr, Israeli ice dancers Sasha and Roman Zaretsky, and world junior champions Julia Vlassov of Hudson, Stephen Carriere and Drew Meekins.

Worcester skaters Heidi and Ursula Munger will also take part. Ursual, 14, recently returned from Colorado Springs, Colo., where she won an intermediate gold medal at the State Games of America. Heidi, 10, placed fourth in the pre-juvenile division.

All of the skaters are donating their time, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will conduct a bone marrow registration drive before the show from 3 to 6 p.m.

Celtics return to DCU Center

It's hard to believe that the Celtics' preseason game against the Nets at the DCU Center on Oct. 19 will be their first in Worcester in seven years. Boston has played 13 preseason games here, but none since Oct. 12, 2000, against the Spurs. The Celtics' first preseason game in Worcester was against the Lakers on Oct. 22, 1983. Tickets ($48, $38, $28 and $10.50) for the Oct. 19 game will go on sale at 10 a.m. today at the DCU Center box office. The North High Alumni Association will hold an alumni day on Sept. 14. The event will raise money for scholarships and school activities.
