Byline: Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith

Get a load of this: An invitation is in the mail for ``An Evening at Rockingham'' - a benefit dinner being hosted by O.J. Simpson's sister, Shirley Simpson Baker - to raise money ``to assist Mr. Simpson with the care of his two minor children.''

We kid you not.

Cost per couple is $1,000. The invitation notes that checks should be made out to Crime Victim Advocacy Support Inc., which Baker heads - and that donations are tax-deductible.

Really!

The beat goes on

How's this for a profile?

Ally Walker, who stars in NBC's ``Profiler,'' is going to have one heck of a busy hiatus period. She's 5-1/2 months' pregnant and says, ``I'm actually going to get married. I've become very old-fashioned in my old age.''

Meanwhile, the ``Profiler'' company is shooting two episodes ahead for next season, which will allow her to delay returning to work until September. ``It's been kind of brutal, but everyone's trying to help. They won't let me work past midnight. And they're trying to make it more of an ensemble show'' - a fact Ally says suits her just fine. As far as she's concerned, putting fresh emphasis on the characters played by Robert Davi and Julian McMahon not only takes some of the load off her shoulders, ``It helps my character not become repetitive and old.''

Working without a net

It was the shortest time I had to get on a character,'' says the star of the recent ``Almost Perfect'' sitcom.

Travis credits ``Gun's'' Peter Horton with helping her into the type-breaking character she plays: a widow who schemes to make millions on her late husband's life-insurance policy. ``She's manipulative - sexually, materialistically. ... It was fun.''

It features 14 songs, all written by Artie and his partner Earl Brown, and tells the story of eight people - all played by Artie - in a fat farm for eight weeks. The musical comedy has drawn such enthusiasm at showcase performances that New York has already come bidding - and it's now planned for an off-Broadway debut in November.
