Steffen Schmidt, an adjunct professor for Nova Southeastern University's Oceanographic Center and a full-time professor of political science at Iowa State University Academics

, will broadcast his one-hour political and public affairs talk show, "Dr. Politics," live from the Oceanographic Center this upcoming Monday, May 13.

It will be aired at 11 a.m. on the Internet at http://www.woi.org/stream/ (click on WOI-AM) using Real Audio Player (free at http://www.real.com/realone/). Listeners can participate in the show by calling 515/294-0640 or email questions to Dr. Politics at WOI@iastate.edu.

Schmidt will also host a free talk to the public that Monday from 2-4 p.m. on "Exploding Counties: The Challenges of Smart and Sustainable Coastal Development." It will be held at the Anne Kolb Nature Center, located at West Lake Park, 751 Sheridan Street, Hollywood, 954/926-2480.

Known for his insights and wit on national and international political issues, Schmidt is a frequent media source. He's been doing his weekly radio for 15 years on WOI-AM in Iowa, a National Public Radio affiliate on the Iowa State campus. With Nova Southeastern University History

The May 13 broadcast will focus on U.S. coastal areas and environmental issues, security at container and cruise ship ports in the aftermath of September 11, and any related topics listeners want to discuss.

Schmidt is an avid SCUBA scuba: see diving, deep-sea.  diver diver, general term used to refer to many diving birds, e.g., the loon, the grebe, and some ducks, auks, and penguins.  and ocean sailor. He has developed several online courses on coastal policy, which are delivered on the World Wide Web.
