See Synonyms at frighten. by a teller who yelled out that he was wanted by the FBI for a string of bank robberies, Los Angeles police spokesman Don Cox said. Morris, suspected of pulling off 11 bank robberies in Los Angeles since Jan. 2, dashed out of the bank and hailed a taxi, police said. Witnesses flagged down a passing patrol car, and the officers followed the taxi to Barrington Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard, where the man and driver jumped out of the cab, police said. The suspect fled into a nearby shoe store with the officers a few yards behind him. The suspect, who had a gun on him, struggled to get it while police were holding him. One of the officers reached for the weapon, and it fired but did not hit anyone, police said. The arrest came one day after Robert J. Mack, supervisory special agent of the FBI's Los Angeles Bank Robbery Squad, described the wanted gunman to the Daily News. Referring to witness reports, Mack depicted the bandit bandit: see brigandage. as ``just sickly looking'' and ``cadaver-like,'' saying he had open sores or scabs on his arms and an ``orange complexion.'' Hitting six banks this month alone, he struck twice Tuesday at a City National Bank and a Marathon National Bank, both located on West Olympic Boulevard in West Los Angeles, federal agents said. Investigators suspect the bandit also carjacked a late model, four-door Mercedes 190 in West Los Angeles last week on his way to robbing a Malibu bank.
