`DIG!' ROCKER'S TALENT NOT DEEP.Byline: Glenn Whipp Film Critic IMAGINE a documentary about the ``rivalry'' between the Beatles and the Stones. Then imagine such a movie about a feud between less-talented bands, say, Blur and Oasis. And then picture a movie featuring two warring bands with little discernible talent whatsoever and you have ``Dig!'' - Ondi Timoner's obsessive and, ultimately, inconsequential look at the history of the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Never heard of them, you say? Don't lose any sleep over it. Judging from the generic music heard here, this isn't the case of the world missing out on undiscovered genius. In the case of BJM BJM Bujumbura, Burundi (airport code) BJM Being John Malkovich (movie) BJM Between Job Monitor BJM Blue Jackets' Manual , it's simply the sad spectacle of a drunken, doped- up, hateful idiot named Anton Newcombe, literally thinking he's the second coming of Christ only to realize that people aren't fond of prophets who physically and mentally abuse their followers. (BJM has gone through more than 40 personnel changes since its 1990 inception.) Timoner spent seven years following the careers of the Dandies and BJM, which would be akin to HBO Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) A form of oxygen therapy in which the patient breathes oxygen in a pressurized chamber. Previously, Grudzielanek played with the Montreal Expos (1995-1998), Los Angeles Dodgers (1998-2002), Chicago Cubs and Eric Young Eric Young can refer to:
The exhaustive filming (1,500 hours!) does capture many telling moments, like the time Newcombe got wasted and kicked his bassist in the head, or the time Newcombe got wasted and kicked a fan in the head, or the time Newcombe got wasted and kicked his wife in the head. It's like an episode of ``Cops'' (and real cops of the Georgian variety do make an appearance), only without the drama of high-speed chases. The only tension here is if Newcombe will follow in the footsteps of his band's namesake, Rolling Stones' multi-instrumentalist Brian Jones For other persons named Brian Jones, see Brian Jones (disambiguation). Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones (28 February 1942 – 3 July 1969) was a founding member, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and backing singer in the English rock group The Rolling Stones. , and OD. And while that makes for good voyeuristic ``fun,'' you'd be better off spending your scratch on a movie about a band that mattered. Try ``The Ramones: The End of the Century.'' Dig?
