It'll be quite a week for ``Dharma & Greg'' leading man Thomas Gibson. He'll know in a few days if he and wife Cristina will become the parents of a boy or a girl in June. And on Sunday, he'll learn if he's won a Golden Globe at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards gala.

``In both cases, I'll win either way,'' says the charmer. He notes of industry awards, ``I never believed those who say it is enough to be nominated. Now I know it is enough to be nominated.''

When Gibson chatted with this column several months ago, he declared that after five years of marriage, he and Cristina had decided to wait a while for babies. He explained, ``We're practicing parenthood on our dogs, and the way they're turning out, well, we'd better take some more time.''

Now he says, ``The dogs are still behaving badly, but we thought we might have more luck with a baby.''

He adds that babies are a big thing on the ``Dharma & Greg'' set these days. ``Producer Regina Stewart has a baby, Sarah. One of our camera assistants had a baby a few months ago. Joel Murray, who plays Pete, and his wife, Eliza Coyle - who plays my ex-girlfriend - had a baby four months ago. It must be something in the water.'' So far, leading lady Jenna Elfman and her husband, Bodhi Pine, haven't joined the ``infanticipaters'' - at least, as far as they're saying.

Meanwhile ...

Gibson says he still doesn't know all the details of the plot of ``Eyes Wide Shut,'' the Stanley Kubrick movie in which he gets involved with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, who portray married psychiatrists who sleep with their patients. But even if he did, he wouldn't say. ``Tom and Nicole know, and they've been respectful of Stanley's wishes, that nothing gets out before the film gets out.'' (Of course, things have already gotten out. For instance, the film will delve into New York's sexual underworld). As for when ``Shut'' will open, Gibson notes, ``I think Warner Bros. announced it would be released in July, but I don't know when Stanley will have it ready. He plays by his own rules, and that's the way he's always functioned. People have too much respect for him to go against his wishes.

Now and then

``Ally McBeal'' actress Jane Krakowski - a Golden Globe nominee for her portrayal of wacky secretary Elaine - tells us she's sent out a memo to the rest of the cast to see whether they want to limo to this year's awards dinner together, as they did last year. ``It sounds like such an Elaine thing to do,'' she laughs. ``But going together made the evening so special before.'' Krakowski points out that the ``Ally'' cast's cameraderie goes far back, that most of the actors on the show worked together well before it took shape. ``I did summer stock theater with Calista (Flockhart) and Gil (Bellows) years ago. When you're making $200 a week, and you have to spend $50 a week for housing in a dorm, you really get to know each other. Everyone's the same as they were all those years ago in summer theater, just our location is different.'' Well, let's say location and station - at least.
