`Comedy of Errors' kicks off '04 Oregon Shakespeare Festival.Byline: The Register-Guard Silliness will blossom when the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's spring season opens Friday with William Shakespeare's farce "The Comedy of Errors." The 8 p.m. performance will kick off a whirl of four plays opening over three days. The world premiere adaptation by Kenneth Albers of Friedrich Durrenmatt's "The Visit" opens at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, followed at 8 p.m. that day by the George Kaufman-Edna Ferber comedy "The Royal Family." Next up will be Suzan-Lori Park's Pulitzer Prize-winning ``Topdog/Underdog'' at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 29. These productions are the first of the festival's 11-play season, which runs through Oct. 31. The plays opening later: Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun A Raisin in the Sun is a play by Lorraine Hansberry that debuted on Broadway in 1959. The story is based upon Hansberry's own experiences growing up in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood. " (opening April 24); "Oedipus Complex Oedipus complex, Freudian term, drawn from the myth of Oedipus, designating attraction on the part of the child toward the parent of the opposite sex and rivalry and hostility toward the parent of its own. " (opening July 31); Shakespeare's "Henry VI, Part One" (opening April 3); Charlotte Jones' ``Humble Boy,'' a West Coast premiere (opening July 10); Shakespeare's "King Lear," "Much Ado About Nothing Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy by William Shakespeare. First published in 1600, it was likely first performed in the winter of 1598-1599,[1] and it remains one of Shakespeare's most enduring plays on stage. " and the second and third parts of "Henry VI" (opening June 18-20). Even as the productions are opening in Ashland this year, the cast of last season's "Continental Divide" is heading overseas to begin rehearsals at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre Birmingham Repertory Theatre (commonly called Birmingham Rep or just The Rep) is a theatre and theatre company based on Centenary Square in Birmingham, England. It is one of the most influential companies in the history of the English Stage. in England, where the Oregon Shakespeare Festival-Berkeley Repertory Theatre co-production by British playwright David Edgar will run March 6-13. It will then move to London's Barbican BARBICAN. An ancient word to signify a watch-tower. Barbicanage was money given for the support of a barbican. Theatre March 20-April 4. This is the first international tour by either company.
