It's that time of year again, and the third time I've seen ``A Christmas Carol'' mounted by the Santa Susana Santa Susana can refer to several places:
  • The Santa Susana Mountains in southern California
  • Santa Susana Pass, running through the abovementioned mountains

Santa Susana's presentation is always done with such flair - an atmospheric set of Victorian London, beautiful costuming and playful effects. The play moves at a good pace, accentuated with a chorus of townspeople who alternate narrating bits of the story.

This year's Scrooge is portrayed by a new actor in the role, Hamilton Camp, and he is a delight to watch as he turns from parsimony par·si·mo·ny

You know the story. On Christmas Eve, Marley comes to warn Scrooge that if he doesn't change his ways, he will suffer Marley's wandering fate. To enlighten him, Scrooge will be visited by three spirits.

The Spirit of Christmas Past (J.J. Rodgers), looking as if she stepped from the court of Louis XIV, shows Scrooge his young years: Jonathan Kunke is the boyhood Scrooge, and his beloved sister Fannie (Carlyle Taylor), the only bright spot in his lonely childhood. As Scrooge watches, he sees himself mature (Brett Elliot), into a man obsessed ob·sess

The Spirit of Christmas Present (Niall Padden) appears to show Scrooge what he is missing in his life. Although underpaid, Scrooge's assistant, Bob Cratchit (Allan Hunt) and his large family - Mrs. Cratchit (Anne Lockhart), Belinda (Allit Rhodes), Meg (Kelly Dodson), Peter (Jeff Arias), St. John (Jonathan Kunke), Martha (Heather Viau) and crippled Tiny Tim (Billy MacDonald Jr.) - manage to have a loving life. And so does his kind and friendly nephew Fred (James Egan).

Alan Toll, as the nonspeaking Spirit of Christmas Future, shows Scrooge how little others will care should he die. One of the funniest parts of the play is the bawdy bawd·y
