He's one of three message-board facilitators in the country for The Motley Fool Inc., an online investor forum based in Alexandria, Va.

A mass-communications graduate of the University of Wisconsin, the 38-year-old Thomas caught the eye of the folks at Motley Fool after posting some particularly insightful messages.

At first, he was offered a free America Online See AOL.  account in exchange for his help in monitoring the message boards. Thomas gradually took on larger projects, writing and editing stories.

Last year, he became a full-time, paid employee for The Motley Fool. He left his job as an assistant to a radio consultant.
