About 100,000 people are expected to attend the 13-hour event, city officials said Tuesday.

``We're really going to celebrate that Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  is the city of the 21st century,'' Mayor Richard Riordan said to announce the celebration.

The Valley is one of five community celebration sites across the city that will celebrate the city's cultural diversity and Los Angeles' reputation as the entertainment capital, Riordan said.

``I think you will have the finest celebration. I think it is incredibly exciting,'' Riordan said. ``I'm taking classes on line dancing now and hopefully I will be ready.''

Because Los Angeles is so big and diverse, it defies having a centralized millennium celebration, officials said.

``We really wanted to do something to celebrate together. We've developed, I think, a really magical way,'' said Adolfo Nodal Having to do with nodes. See node.
