He was 68. Bobs Watson died Saturday evening at his home in Laguna Beach Laguna Beach (ləg `nə), city (1990 pop. 23,170), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast; founded 1887, inc. 1927. with his wife, Jaye, by his side, Delmar Watson said. Because their parents also acted, the Watsons were considered the ``first family'' of Hollywood. They were honored on April 22 with a star on the Walk of Fame. Bobs Watson was too ill to attend the ceremony, but he listened via a cell phone and was later able to view a videotape of the event, Delmar Watson said. Bobs Watson alone among his family continued acting throughout his life, including a role in ``Deadly Delusions,'' a movie filmed last year and due out shortly. He played roles in more than 500 stage productions and more than 200 movies and television shows. But he had a second calling - as a Methodist minister. His first congregation was the Magnolia Methodist Church in Burbank, Delmar Watson said. ``He married thousands of people,'' including movie director and former child actor Ron Howard, Delmar Watson said. Two sisters, Vivian and Gloria, preceded him in death. Six of the Watson siblings survive him: brothers Coy Watson Jr. of Alpine, Calif.; Billy in Washington state; Harry of Tujunga; Garry of Burbank; and Delmar of Glendale; and sister Louise Watson Roberts of Burbank. A public service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Methodist Church, 700 N. Glenoaks Boulevard, in Burbank. |
