`AMAZING DREAMCOAT' LINED WITH PLEASURES : THE FACTS.

Byline: Victoria Giraud Special to the Daily News

The Cabrillo Music Theatre production of ``Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'' through the weekend offers a musical bag of tricks to please just about any taste, from country to rock to Latin and classical. Most of all, it's just plain fun from start to finish.

sell Joseph as a slave to an Egyptian caravan. They musically lament to their father, Jacob - the comical Bill Clark - that Joseph is ``one more angel in heaven.''

The talented but innocent Joseph (charismatically played by David Burnham) quickly establishes himself in the household of a wealthy Egyptian. Poor Joseph, the Egyptian's sensual wife (the alluring Erin Appling) gets him in trouble. He's jailed, but his talent for reading dreams attracts the attention of the Pharaoh (a stimulating performance by David Engel) and Joseph rises to the top once again.

Joseph's rambunctious brothers decide that their luck has turned sour since he left, and besides, there's a drought. The family travels to Egypt, and Joseph gets his chance at a little revenge. Unrecognized, he gives his brothers sacks of food but plants a golden goblet in the sack of brother Benjamin (the likable Kevin Carranza) and then accuses him of stealing it. Time has changed the brothers' character, and they unite in Benjamin's defense. Joseph forgives them and reveals himself for a happy ending.

All of the elements of this production, expertly directed by Randy Brenner, come together wonderfully to create an evening of entertainment for the whole family. Sets were creatively colorful and unique; the costumes (Janet Webb, costumer) added to the mood. Production numbers (lively choreography by Adrea Gibbs), with their original contemporary touches like the use of sunglasses, berets and top hats, were full of humor, sparkle and high energy.

All were in good voice, highlighted by the excellent, full-bodied voices of Teek, Burnham and Engel. The children's choir, on both sides of the stage during the performance, added their own special touch and consisted of Matthew Baker Matthew Baker or Matt Baker may refer to:
