Entertainment Editors & Film Writers

LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--July 18, 2000

"X" marked the spot this weekend for Twentieth Century Fox, as the studio's "X-Men" opened to a record-breaking $54.5 million.

The figure is the highest opening ever for a non-sequel, and the second-largest opening weekend ever in Fox's history behind "Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace."
