``True Crime'' Tops French Box Office, Earns $1,500,802 in Opening Weekend; Receipts are Second-Highest of All Clint Eastwood Films in France.


BURBANK, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--May 4, 1999--

In its opening weekend, "True Crime" ranked first among French moviegoers with a nationwide gross of $1,500,802, it was announced today by Edward E. Frumkes, President, International Theatrical Distribution and Marketing.

This makes "True Crime" the second most popular Clint Eastwood film in that country after 1993's "A Perfect World" and the sixth most successful American film to open in France this year. The film, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Eastwood, Isaiah Washington, Dennis Leary, Lisa Gay Hamilton Lisa Gay Hamilton (born March 25, 1964 in Los Angeles, California) is an American actress best known for her role as attorney Rebecca Washington on the ABC legal drama The Practice.  and James Woods, also led box-office receipts in Paris, as well as in neighboring Belgium and the French-speaking part of Switzerland.

"`True Crime' is a quality drama with the character development that French audiences respond to," stated Mr. Frumkes. "We're excited about the powerful opening in France, which is an excellent introduction for `True Crime' in the rest of Europe."

The executive producer is Tom Rooker. "True Crime" has a screenplay by Larry Gross and Paul Brickman and Stephen Schiff, based on the novel by Andrew Klavan. The film is produced by Richard D.
