, Michael Gambon and Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick, will open on June 6, 2006, otherwise known as 6-6-6. Appearing in the Bible's Book of Revelations as "the mark of the beast," 6-6-6 is a well-known symbol of evil, and the number functions as a character of sorts in this remake of Richard Donner's 1976 classic.

With the actual date of June 6, 2006 upon us, "The Omen" and its opening date has reignited the dialogue about the relevance and significance of that date and number in a modern, religion-questioning society.

According to a recent TIME/CNN poll, 35% of adults say they are paying closer attention to news events and how they might relate to the coming end of the world since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. 59% of adults believe the prophecies in the Book of Revelation will come true.

According to Barna research, 60% of adults say that the devil, or Satan, is not a living being, but is a symbol of evil, compared to 58% in 2001. As of 2005, 61% of men believe that Satan is just a symbol of evil versus 57% of women. Also, 90% of adults believe in God, while 68% believe in the devil, according to The Harris Poll (2003).

The new film takes the tale of the coming of the Antichrist Antichrist (ăn`tĭkrīst), in Christian belief, a person who will represent on earth the powers of evil by opposing the Christ, glorifying himself, and causing many to leave the faith.  -- personified as a young boy named Damien -- to an even more thrilling and visceral level. Providing the world does not come to an end early in the day, "The Omen" will open 6-6-06, a once in a century date that may or may not represent the doomsday, but that has many people talking, and in some cases, preparing.
