"The Morning After" (1986):

Jane Fonda earned her seventh Oscar nomination as Alex, an alcoholic has-been actress cast in the real-life role of Suspect #1 in a murder investigation. Panicked at the thought of facing the police, Alex runs for it...right into the battered convertible of a washed-up former cop (Jeff Bridges). Alan J. Pakula ("Presumed Innocent," "The Pelican Brief"), directs Ms. Fonda for a third time ("Comes a Horseman" and "Klute") in this intense political drama co-starring Kris Kristofferson, Hume Cronyn and Josef Sommer Sommer is a surname, from the German and Danish word for the season "summer".

. Fonda plays Lee Winters, a former film star who inherits a multi-million dollar company after her corporate magnate husband is murdered. Winters teams up with banking consultant Hubbell Smith (Kristofferson) in order to find her husband's killer and survive the world of high stakes international finance.

Donald Sutherland plays detective John Klute and Jane Fonda's powerful performance as Bree earned her the 1971 Academy Award for Best Actress.
