"The Bandies" (www.thebandies.com), honoring excellence in broadband content, announced the expansion of the best broadband video service category to include animation content or service providers.

To accommodate the interest from companies involved in these technologies, deadline for submissions has been extended to Oct. 6, 2000. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in Downtown Los Angeles Downtown Los Angeles is the central business district of Los Angeles, California, located close to the geographic center of the metropolitan area. The sprawling, multi-centered megacity is such that its downtown core is often considered just another district like Hollywood or  on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at the Mayan Theater, during the cable industry's Western Show.

Leading sponsors of the awards, representing many aspects of the broadband industry, include: Cahners Television Group, ICTV ICTV International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses

"The Bandies" brings together cable executives, broadband content developers and technology providers for an event that will shape the emerging broadband future by rewarding the best efforts to extend traditional television with the new technologies and tools.

These tools include middleware, streaming media See streaming audio, streaming video and digital media hub.  servers and TV browsers that enable a diverse range of new applications, including: Video-on-Demand, interactive program guides, enhanced television Enhanced Television (ETV) is a collection of specifications developed under the OpenCable project of CableLabs (Cable Television Laboratories, Inc.) that define an ETV Application consisting of resources (files) adhering to the Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) content , TV-based e-mail, interactive gaming, Instant Messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or , hyperlinking, hyperTV and new broadband content built with Web-based tools now reaching to the television.

Submission in the form of URLs or videotapes can be submitted via an online application which is posted at www.thebandies.com.
