MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Five Washington, D.C. Area Hotels Launch Brand-wide Effort, Donating 1,200 Household Items

Did you ever wonder what happens to hotel furnishings when hotels undergo renovations? Five Washington, D.C. area Homewood Suites by Hilton hotels are "spring cleaning" items such as pillows, sheets, towels, shampoos and other household goods to donate to local Washington, D.C. homeless shelters. Today's donation kicks off a relationship between Homewood Suites brand's more than 170 hotels and the National Coalition for the Homeless to aid the charity's mission to "Bring America Home." The National Coalition for the Homeless is a non-profit organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C. that is dedicated to ending homelessness throughout the country.

In addition to providing 1,200 household items, Homewood Suites by Hilton is also donating $25,000 to the National Coalition for the Homeless and announcing a multi-faceted partnership, which includes an ongoing spring cleaning donation effort at all its hotels, awareness-building campaigns and volunteer programs.

"We are in the process of renovating our more than 170 hotels throughout the United States and Canada," said Bill Duncan, vice president of sales and marketing. "Through our new relationship with the National Coalition for the Homeless, we have created a framework for our hotels to give back to the community by donating their replaced furnishings and helping create a new home for those in need."

Michael Stoops, acting executive director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, said he is excited about the donations Homewood Suites will be presenting. "We are thrilled to be able to coordinate the effort of Homewood Suites to make their excess goods available to those in need," Stoops said. "We believe this is a wonderful program and are looking forward to seeing it take place in the 170 Homewood Suites communities."
