, taking viewers back in time and down memory lane with replays of 22 classic Daytona 500(C) race telecasts dating all the way back to the first televised flag-to-flag coverage of the 500 in 1979. Starting next week, NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. It held its first race in Daytona Beach, Fla.  CLASSICS, a six-month weekly series, will bring the sights and sounds of some of Florida's most exciting NASCAR races to fans throughout the Sunshine State.

The green flag drops on the series Tuesday, May 10, at 8pm with the 1979 Daytona 500, won by the "King" himself, Richard Petty Richard Lee Petty (born July 2, 1937) is a former NASCAR Winston Cup Series driver. "The King," as he is nicknamed, is most well-known for winning the NASCAR Championship seven times (Dale Earnhardt is the only other driver to accomplish this feat),winning a record 200 races  for a record seventh time, and a race that featured one of the wilder endings with Cale Yarborough mixing it up with Bobby Allison on the infield after he crashed into his brother Donnie Allison on the final lap. A different race premieres each Tuesday at 8pm (ET) through the first week in November. Two memorable Pepsi 400s(C) run at Daytona International Speedway Daytona International Speedway is a superspeedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is a 2.5 mile (4 km) tri-oval race track facility with a seating capacity of 168,000 spectators. (C) in 1999 and 2000 are also included.

NASCAR CLASSICS offers viewers an opportunity to re-live some of the most memorable moments from the Great American Race Great American Race may refer to:
  • Indianapolis 500, a stock car race
  • Daytona 500, a stock car race
  • Great Race, an annual club rally for antique vehicles
 in Daytona, won by the sports' legendary NASCAR drivers. From the first televised flag-to-flag coverage of a 500-mile race in 1979 to Dale Jarrett taking home his third checkered flag in 2000, viewers can see every nail-biting, record-breaking moment. Names like Cale Yarborough, Bill Elliott, Bobby Allison, Davey Allison and current superstar Jeff Gordon. Also included is the late Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s long overdue and record-breaking 1998 Daytona 500 win, his first in 20 attempts, airing October 4, at 8pm.

NASCAR CLASSICS are available to Sun Sports through an agreement reached with SPEED Channel, who, with Sun Sports, is also a part of the Fox Cable family of networks.
