``I'm Outta Here!'': 61% of Employees Have Burned Bridges Exiting Their Jobs; Vault releases first-ever Survey on Employee Exits.

 the first-ever Survey on Employee Exits by career publisher Vault Inc. (www.vault.com), 61% of respondents have exited a job on bad terms with their employer.

Vault's 2006 Survey on Employee Exits survey was conducted in August of this year and is comprised of 706 responses from employees representing a variety of industries across the country.

Survey takers left companies on bad terms due to disagreements with management (73%), disagreements with co-workers (12%), or to start employment with a new company immediately (14%). Reported one respondent: "Owners of the company were liars, cheaters, and didn't treat their employee's well." Another respondent said: "My manager wanted me to do something that violated FDA FDA

 regulations, and then he got HR to begin disciplinary steps because I was disobedient."

Almost half (47%) did not give notice in person, but instead called or emailed their manager. Explained one respondent, "After having it out with my boss' boss, I called my boss and told him I quit. The funny thing was, at the same time I was in his voicemail, his boss paged him and told him to fire me."

Types of bad exits included screaming matches (42%), physical scuffles (4%), negative mass emails (24%), negative speeches at company meetings (18%), and even vandalized or stolen company property (12%).

About half of respondents (52%) witnessed or took part in a domino See Lotus Notes.  effect in which one person's exit caused others to leave the company soon after.
