, said, "The soundtrack's incredible sales numbers don't surprise us -- we've had many successes when partnering with Disney Channel. Hilary Duff ('Lizzie McGuire'), The Cheetah Girls and Aly & AJ all have had huge breakthroughs thanks to the combination of Disney Channel and record marketing. Not only does the soundtrack and movie hit the target demo for 6-11 year olds, but it also resonates with tweens and teens -- the 9 to 17 year olds. What is surprising is the sheer volume of digital downloads, representing over 45% of sales to date. The success at iTunes demonstrates how tech-savvy today's tweens really are and how the individual songs touch the audience in a powerful way. The soundtrack to High School Musical is 'Grease' for a new generation."

Gary Marsh, President, Entertainment, Disney Channel Worldwide, said, "The response to 'High School Musical' has been overwhelming. The soundtrack's success is due not only to the world-class songwriting and amazing performances of our cast, but also to the fact that the themes of both the movie and the music -- follow your dreams, believe in yourself and celebrate your differences -- speak directly to the heart and soul of kids everywhere."
