Radio or television broadcast of news events. News gathering and broadcasting by the radio networks began in the mid-1930s and increased significantly during World War II. The television newscast began in 1948 with 15-minute programs that resembled movie newsreels.
" award for 2002. The award is one of six honors for Eyewitness News 5 and KOCO KOCO Kenwood-Oakland Community Organization (Chicago, Illinois)  5 television in the annual competition.

Hearst-Argyle is majority-owned by the New York City-based Hearst Corporation, and holds joint ventures in television production with NBC Universal Television Distribution, has an Internet partnership  group, which owns 24 television stations, and manages an additional three television and two radio stations, in geographically diverse U.S. markets.
