There is a broad variety of kinds of races and sailboats used for racing. Much racing is done around buoys or similar marks in protected waters, while some longer offshore races cross open water. Fleet (WYRF), has enlisted volunteers to organize a "Day on the Bay," for homeless and at-risk youth in San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. The event will be held for children of the Monarch School and St Vincent's de Paul Village. After spending a few hours sailing on San Diego Bay Noun 1. Many of the students who will participate are involved in a mentoring program through Monarch School and will spend the event with their adult mentors. The goal of this event is "to share our love of sailing and of being on the water with disadvantaged children who may never have experienced this before," said Moninya Roughan. Monarch School was founded in 1988 to help homeless and at-risk youth break the cycle of poverty through education. Two types of cases are processed by a juvenile court: civil matters, often concerning care of an abandoned or impoverished child, and criminal matters, arising from antisocial system by the County Office of Education, it was heralded as one of the first schools in California for homeless and at risk youth.
