``Day on the Bay'' Fun Sail for Homeless and at Risk Youth in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2004

Moninya Roughan of the Women's Yacht Racing Yacht racing is the sport of competitive sailing. There is a broad variety of kinds of races and sailboats used for racing. Much racing is done around buoys or similar marks in protected waters, while some longer offshore races cross open water.  Fleet (WYRF), has enlisted volunteers to organize a "Day on the Bay," for homeless and at-risk youth in San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. . The event will be held for children of the Monarch School and St Vincent's de Paul Village.

, the children and volunteers will gather and share their experiences during a BBQ BBQ barbecue  lunch. Many of the students who will participate are involved in a mentoring program through Monarch School and will spend the event with their adult mentors.

Monarch School was founded in 1988 to help homeless and at-risk youth break the cycle of poverty through education. Operated as part of the juvenile court juvenile court

Special court handling problems of delinquent, neglected, or abused children. Two types of cases are processed by a juvenile court: civil matters, often concerning care of an abandoned or impoverished child, and criminal matters, arising from antisocial
 system by the County Office of Education, it was heralded as one of the first schools in California for homeless and at risk youth. San Diego's task force on the homeless estimates there are 2,000 homeless kids in the city.
