 to defeat former State Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa Antonio Ramon Villaraigosa (born Antonio (Tony) Ramon Villar, Jr. on January 23, 1953) is the mayor of Los Angeles, California. He is the first Latino mayor of Los Angeles since Cristobal Aguilar in 1872.  by a margin of 53% to 43%. The actual June 5 totals were 54% to 46%.

"ABC7 Eyewitness News" and SurveyUSA began tracking the runoff election in April, capturing the high-stakes battle in seven separate surveys. This tracking poll showed a swell of support for Villaraigosa in mid-May and documented Hahn's successful effort to rebound using an advertising blitz in the last two weeks of the campaign.

Earlier this year, only "ABC7 Eyewitness News" and SurveyUSA accurately projected Villaraigosa as the winner of the primary election for Mayor of Los Angeles. That poll of 1,200 likely voters showed Villaraigosa leading with 31%, Hahn in second place with 22% and businessman Steve Soboroff trailing in third place with 18%. The actual tallies were Villaraigosa 30%, Hahn 25% and Soboroff 21%. Both polls had a margin of error of plus or minus 3%.
