Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE NYSE

: UVN UVN Ustredni Vojenska Nemocnice (Prague) ), the nation's leading Spanish-language television broadcast company, issued the following statement today in response to Nielsen Media Research's recent decision to further postpone the use of language spoken within Hispanic households as a factor in determining how accurately its NSI See Network Solutions.

&uot;We are extremely disappointed by Nielsen's decision to again

postpone the inclusion of language spoken within Hispanic

households as part of its methodology for the maintenance of

metered sample households, thereby continuing its misrepresentation misrepresentation

of the viewing habits of the Hispanic population. By Nielsen's own

account, the inclusion of this additional demographic is critical

to accurately measure television audiences in markets with

significant Hispanic populations, including Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , New York New York, state, United States

&uot;Nielsen's own statements undermine its rationale for postponement.

In their issued press release, Nielsen said that it will delay the

use of language as a result of its concern over divergences from

procedures used by a subcontractor in conducting and validating

interviews. Yet in the same press release, Nielsen states that the

divergences that were identified do not have a material impact on

either the universe estimates or on the reported audience data.

&uot; While Univision has always maintained that all actions be taken to

ensure maximum accuracy in the reported ratings, we find this third

postponement absolutely unacceptable. We urge Nielsen to

immediately begin utilizing language spoken in the recruitment and

maintenance of its sample homes and at the same time establish

appropriate quality controls, and begin initiating a second audit

to ensure that there is compliance throughout the entire language

process.&uot;
