LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 1999--

Downtown Los Angeles is playing host to no less than three New Year's Eve events -- two of them free family-oriented street parties -- to end the millennium.

Families and holiday revelers can celebrate at two giant alcohol-free block parties sponsored by the City's Cultural Affairs Department:

-- Global Village on Grand Avenue, from First Street to New Hope,

including California Plazas One and Two, will include free multi-

cultural entertainment on two stages, interactive art workshops,

marching bands with 2,000 participants, food, an air show and

more. Tickets are required and available at no charge at Ralphs,

Food 4 Less and Los Angeles Public Libraries. Noon to 1 a.m.

Phone 213/485-ARTS for information.

-- Alameda-Civic Center Celebration on Olvera Street, 125 Paseo

de la Plaza, will feature 2,000 folkloric dancers, a Children's

Midnight program, and performances by Nydia Rojas, Los Lobos, The

Watts Prophets and Blues Experience. The celebration will

include sports, crafts and food booths, and conclude with a

special laser light show. Tickets are required and available at

no charge at Ralphs, Food 4 Less and Los Angeles Public

Libraries. Noon to 1 a.m. Phone 213/485-ARTS for information.

In addition, the new STAPLES Center, 1111 Figueroa St., will host a concert featuring The Eagles with Jackson Browne & Linda Ronstadt. Phone 877/5-ACT-NOW for tickets.

Continuing a Los Angeles Christmas Eve tradition, the Music Center, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors and KCET-TV welcome all area residents to the Fortieth Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, 135 N. Grand Ave., Dec. 24, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Free admission and parking.
