[2] Three Downtown Millennium Celebrations Ring in New Year.LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 1999-- Downtown Los Angeles is playing host to no less than three New Year's Eve events -- two of them free family-oriented street parties -- to end the millennium. Families and holiday revelers can celebrate at two giant alcohol-free block parties sponsored by the City's Cultural Affairs Department: -- Global Village on Grand Avenue, from First Street to New Hope, including California Plazas One and Two, will include free multi- cultural entertainment on two stages, interactive art workshops, marching bands with 2,000 participants, food, an air show and more. Tickets are required and available at no charge at Ralphs, Food 4 Less and Los Angeles Public Libraries. Noon to 1 a.m. Phone 213/485-ARTS for information. -- Alameda-Civic Center Celebration on Olvera Street, 125 Paseo de la Plaza, will feature 2,000 folkloric dancers, a Children's Midnight program, and performances by Nydia Rojas, Los Lobos, The Watts Prophets and Blues Experience. The celebration will include sports, crafts and food booths, and conclude with a special laser light show.
