Texaco/Havoline Racing Team Scholarship

and Internship Program Unveiled

Texaco, Roberts Yates Racing Yates Racing is a motorsports racing team that currently races in NASCAR Sprint Cup and Busch Series[1]. Formerly known as Robert Yates Racing since its inception, and briefly Yates/Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing during a brief merger attempt with the  and NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. It held its first race in Daytona Beach, Fla.  Winston Cup driver Ricky Rudd Ricky Rudd (born September 12, 1956 in Norfolk County, Virginia, now Chesapeake) is a NASCAR driver. He is the uncle of actor Skeet Ulrich and Busch Series driver Jason Rudd.  today unveiled a fully equipped No. 28 Texaco/Havoline Ford Taurus Not to be confused with Ford Taunus.

The Ford Taurus is currently a full-size, front-wheel drive or all wheel drive automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company in North America.
 to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T) is a land-grant doctoral/research intensive university located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Founded in 1891, NC A&T now (fall 2005) enrolls 11,103 students from across the United States and 33 foreign .

Presented at a luncheon held in honor of the installation of Chancellor James C. Renick, the car will be used as a unique "laboratory" by engineering students. It also marks the beginning of a new partnership between Texaco and N.C. A&T's College of Engineering, which includes the title sponsorship of the University's Intercollegiate Auto Racing Association (ICAR) Racing Team.

 Racing, also established the Texaco/Havoline Racing Team Scholarship and Internship Program. Students associated with the University's ICAR program will be eligible to apply for a scholarship and summer internship with Robert Yates Racing.

In 1998, A&T became a charter member and the only Historically Black College or University to join the ICAR Association, which was formed for the purpose of organizing auto racing as a collegiate sport for engineering students. Last year, A&T's College of Engineering included the racing activity into its curriculum by introducing a new course, Principles of Race Car Engineering. Crew members from Robert Yates Racing will participate as guest lecturers throughout the academic year exposing the students to automotive systems See ITS, embedded system, drive-by-wire, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance system, autonomous vehicle, heads-up display, DSRC, lane departure system, CAN bus, FlexRay and SYNC.  and mechanisms.

"The ICAR program provides an excellent opportunity for the real life application of engineering principles. With the addition of the No. 28 Texaco/Havoline car, we hope to stimulate a hands-on approach to learning and motivate more students to pursue engineering degrees," explained Ed N. Texaco has been involved in motorsports since 1917 when a two-man team using Texaco products drove a Maxwell touring car from Newark, New Jersey to Los Angeles in 10 days and 16 hours - quite a feat in those days. Since then, Texaco has been associated with some of the legendary names in auto racing, including Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Davey Allison, Tom Sneva, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ernie Irvan and now Ricky Rudd.

Operating in more than 150 countries, Texaco and its affiliates explore for, find and produce oil and natural gas; manufacture and market high-quality fuels and lubricant products; operate trading, transportation and distribution facilities; and produce alternate forms of energy for power, manufacturing and chemicals.

Robert Yates entered the NASCAR Winston Cup Series as a car owner in October of 1988 when he purchased the No. 28 team from Harry Ranier. Prior to purchasing the team, Yates had the reputation as one of the sport's premier engine builders. Today, Yates is a well-known Winston Cup Series Championship team owner.
