[2] Sony and Sportvision to Unveil New Golf System Technology to Measure Club and Ball Speed At the Sony Open in Hawaii Jan. 10-16.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1999--

Sony Corporation, a world-leader in technology and entertainment in cooperation with Sportvision, Inc., the leading provider of sports technology for TV and the Internet, will soon unveil a new cutting-edge product designed to provide golf fans never-before-seen information on the speed of a PGA TOUR player's swing and how swing speed impacts results.

For the first time on any national golf broadcast, the Sony Open will introduce the "Tee Velocity" system, which will allow the audience to see the club head speed at the point of impact and the speed of the ball as it leaves the club face of some of the best golfers in the world. The system uses sophisticated radar architecture to generate precise information, which will then be available for real-time distribution to television and the Internet through the Sportvision Data Infrastructure (SDI).

"Sony is excited to be working with Sportvision to unveil new technology that will enhance both the on-site and television viewing of our event. The Sony Open is the perfect vehicle to illustrate Sony's commitment to golf, entertainment, technology and our ability to showcase this unique convergence," said Steven Roberts, General Manager, Global Operations and Development for Sony Sports Marketing.
