) today announced they will be the title sponsor of the 1999 Butkus Award(R) Gala.

This prestigious award, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate linebacker, is presented by the Downtown Athletic Club The Downtown Athletic Club was an athletic club in a 35-story building located at 19 West Street in Lower Manhattan, New York City, USA. The 1999 Butkus Award(R) Gala will take place at Hard Rock Live at Universal Studios City Walk on Friday, December 10, 1999. The Butkus Award(R) and Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, Inc. are celebrating their 15th anniversary.

The Butkus Award(R) was created in 1985 by the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando, Inc. and is regarded as one of the most elite individual honors in college football. The 1999 finalists LaVar Arrington LaVar RaShad Arrington (born June 20, 1978 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a former professional football player. He played linebacker for six seasons in the National Football League, most recently for the New York Giants. , Brandon Short Brandon Darnell Short (born July 11, 1977 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania) is a professional American football linebacker in the National Football League. He was an All-American at Penn State and played in Super Bowl XXXV.  (Penn State), Mark Simoneau Mark Lee Simoneau (born January 16, 1977, in Phillipsburg, Kansas) is an American football linebacker in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints.

Simoneau grew up in Smith Center, Kansas.
 (Kansas State) and Raynoch Thompson Raynoch Thompson (born November 21, 1977) is a free agent linebacker in the NFL. He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2nd round (45th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft out of the University of Tennessee.  (Tennessee), their families, coaches and Butkus Silver Anniversary Award winner Bob Breunig will be in attendance. CNN/SI's Fred Hickman will be the master of ceremonies.

Presenting the award at this prestigious ceremony will be John Fahl, president of Cooper's global tire operations. Attending the black tie gala also will be a group of independent Cooper tire dealers from several states as well as other company officials. Commenting on the award, Fahl said, "We are delighted at the opportunity to participate in this great event. The hard work, sacrifice and determination of the young men who compete for this award is similar to the challenges our own team of dealers and support staff undergo on a daily basis to compete in the tire industry."
