The Celestra Consortium, founded by Legato Systems, provides a forum to facilitate open technology adoption and enhance integration efficiency.

StorageTek's strategy is to deliver SANaps(TM) Foundation Blueprints that bring intelligence into the storage network. The next SANaps solution will be Serverless Backup A type of LAN free backup that does not use any of the resources of an application server or a backup server. See LAN free backup. , which is being demonstrated at EuroStorage 2000.

"As a result of this partnership, StorageTek's customers will benefit by dramatically shrinking their backup window while saving time, money and resources," said Walter Hinton Walter Hinton ( 10 November 1888 - 28 October, 1981) was a United States aviator.

About the Celestra Consortium

The 60-plus members of the consortium have demonstrated a strong commitment to SANs and solution interoperability and are considered the leading vendors in this market. Members have a high degree of commitment and provide input and funding to support consortium integration efforts. The consortium was kicked off at an introductory meeting in Monterey, Calif., June 15 and 16, 1999.

About Legato Celestra

Legato's Celestra introduced an open, distributed architecture that optimizes data movement efficiency in SAN environments. Data movement is performed by an intelligent SAN device that complies with the open standard SCSI Extended Copy specification. Data movement intelligence is provided by Legato Celestra agents, enabling powerful applications such as serverless, outboard backup that eliminates the backup window. Control is provided by Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) An open standard for backing up data in a heterogeneous environment. Developed by Network Appliance and IntelliGuard Software, NDMP uses a common data format which is written to and read from drivers for the specific disk and )-compliant control applications such as Legato NetWorker. This open standards approach means maximum customer ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  and operational efficiency.
