Malchi v. Thaler THALER. The name of a coin. The thaler of Prussia and of the northern states of Germany is deemed as money of account, at the custom-house, to be of the value of sixty-nine cents. Act of May 22, 1846.

A state prisoner filed a petition for habeas corpus habeas corpus (hā`bēəs kôr`pəs) [Lat.,=you should have the body], writ directed by a judge to some person who is detaining another, commanding him to bring the body of the person in his custody at a specified time to a  relief based on the alleged denial of his due process rights in connection with a disciplinary proceeding. The district court granted the petition and the state appealed. The appeals court reversed, finding that the prisoner's thirty day loss of commissary COMMISSARY.
