Youth football: The Castaic-Santa Clarita Cougars, Mity Mites division (11- and 12-year-olds), have advanced to the Valley Youth Football Conference championship, Sunday at noon at Van Nuys High School Van Nuys High School (VNHS) established in 1914, is a high school in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles, California, belonging to the Los Angeles Unified School District: District 2. . The 8-0 Mity Mites, the only remaining undefeated tackle football team in the area, will face the East Valley Trojans (7-2).

The team is led by Tim Gregory, who has scored 23 touchdowns in the eight games.

 earned the shutout in goal. Defender Rick Zeller cleared on the Eagles' scoring attempts while Jordan was down outside the net.

Baseball: Lancaster Youth Pony Baseball will hold sign-ups Dec. 7 for its spring 1997 season. Sign-ups are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Skytower Park, off Avenue K at 32nd Street East. Fees are $40 for the Shetland division, ages 5 and 6: $55 for the Pinto division, ages 7 and 8; $65 for the Mustang division,

Baseball: Quartz Hill Pony League The Pennsylvania-Ontario-New York League, also known as the PONY League, was a Class D minor league baseball circuit that played from 1939 through 1956. Parents are asked to bring proof of residence and birth certificate copies for all players new to the league. Sign-ups are for boys and girls ages 5 to 15 for softball and baseball.
