Soccer: The boys under-16 team of the Valley United Soccer Club (3-0) defeated the Moorpark Express 6-1 Saturday in an El Camino Real Soccer League under-17 division game. United led 3-0 at halftime, then came back in the second half to score three more goals. Moorpark's goal was on a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half.

United's Kris Pardo scored a hat trick. Johann Perez earned the assists on Pardo's first two goals, and Noah Lowman sent him a pass on the last goal. Ali Zamani scored United's second goal on a pass from Jacob Boeding. Jared Weinryt put in the third goal on a assist by Renzo Della Ripa. Boeding also scored on a penalty kick. Due mostly to injuries, plus a player sitting out a red card in the previous game, United had only 11 players for most of the game, and only 10 players for the last 25 minutes. Other team members contributing to the win were Derek Frias, Eric Louzil, Rick Zeller and Matt Jordan in goal.

Football: Antelope Valley College (0-1, 0-0) will play Rio Hondo Saturday at Marauder Stadium. The Marauders and Roadrunners began their season two weeks ago. The Marauders lost to Palomar 43-6 in the opening game, while the Roadrunners defeated Pierce 34-19. This is the opening game in the Foothill Conference for both teams. The series stands at 7-2-1 in favor of the Marauders. Because this is the 50th year of Marauder football, at each home game the Athletic Department will honor at halftime members of past football teams. Against Rio Hondo, those honored will be members of teams in the 1940s and 1950s. This group includes four conference champions (1954, 1956, 1958 and 1959) who went to five bowl games. Star players from the era include Tom Crenshaw (1954-1955), Jim Cox (1952-1954), Bob Keyes (1955-56) and Johnny Lizarraga (1947-48). Those individuals from the era who are in attendance will be honored at a halftime ceremony. Anyone from the era who will be coming to the game should call the AVC Athletic Department at [phone].

Golf tournament: The Paraclete High School Booster Club will hold its fifth annual Golf Classic fund-raiser Oct. 12. Registration for the four-person scramble will start at 10:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. The tournament will be held at Elizabeth Lake Golf Club, 42505 Ranch Club Road. Entry fee is $75 per person, which covers greens fees, shared use of a golf cart, tee gifts, awards and a catered dinner. Sign-ups will be limited to 144 participants. Each player must bring a set of clubs and wear a collared shirt.
