GE and Shin-Etsu Joint Venture

General Electric, together with Shin-Etsu Chemical of Japan, a major Japanese silicone producer, held a groundbreaking ceremony for their Thailand silicones manufacturing plant. The plant, with a planned investment of approximately $250 million, will be the largest silicones manufacturing plant in Asia. The facility will be located in Map Ta Phut Phut (fŭt), in the Bible, son of Ham and eponym of an African people. It may also be a region, possibly Punt or Libya, and is perhaps the same as Pul (2.) It also appears as Put. , near Bangkok.

On 7 February of this year, GE, together with Shin-Etsu Chemical, signed definitive agreements to establish a jointly-owned facility in Thailand to manufacture silane-monomers and siloxanes, the essential materials used in the production of silicone products.
