GE GLOBAL EXCHANGE SERVICES LAUNCHES NETWORK-BASED TRANSLATION
                   SERVICE FOR ELECTRONIC DOCUMENTS

GE Global eXchange Services, a leader in business-to-business
Internet commerce, announced a service that allows small and
medium-sized enterprises to extract data from their back-office
systems and send it to trading partners over the Internet or private
networks in almost any format. The service, called Network-Based
Translation, helps companies to inexpensively participate in
electronic marketplaces and supply chain networks by automatically
sending and receiving business documents in extensible markup language
(XML), electronic data exchange (EDI), or other formats specified by
the recipient.
One barrier to small and medium-sized companies participating in
exchanges or supply chain networks is the expense and complexity of
translating data from back-office systems, such as enterprise resource
planning (ERP), into a data format acceptable to the recipient. GE
Global eXchange Services' (GXS) Network-Based Translation is designed
to remove this barrier by performing the task of data translation as a
centralized service, on a per-document basis.
"Network-Based Translation places within the reach of small and
medium-sized companies the kinds of e-commerce efficiencies formerly
limited to large enterprises with big IT staffs and formidable IT
budgets," said Steven Scala, GXS's vice president of marketing.
"Entire trading communities will profit from the adoption of this
service, as smaller companies begin to participate in electronic
trading and expensive paper-based means of trading can be retired."

      About GE Global eXchange Services

GE Global eXchange Services (GXS) operates one of the largest B2B
e-commerce networks in the world, with more than 100,000 trading
partners. The network's 1 billion annual transactions account for $1
trillion in goods and services. With a presence in 58 countries, GXS
applies Six Sigma quality processes to provide e-commerce solutions
that help businesses around the globe remove costs from their supply
chains. GE Global eXchange Services is a part of the General Electric
Company, U.S.A., and is headquartered in Gaithersburg, Md. Call (800)

GE SENDING 131 MEGAWATTS OF DISTRIBUTED POWER CAPACITY
                        INTO ENERGY HUNGRY WEST

GE Distributed Power secured contracts during the first six months
of this year to supply midrange power generation equipment for
installations in California and the Pacific Northwest totaling 131
megawatts, or enough power for nearly 115,000 households.
"In response to the growing demand for additional power across the
western U.S., power producers and power consumers are seeking
immediate, reliable and environmentally compatible solutions," said
Daniel Kabel, General Manager of GE Distributed Power, a business unit
of GE Power Systems. "With a diverse selection of natural gas-fired
power generation units, we are ideally positioned to meet those
requirements."
Our first units are scheduled to begin service as early as August
in both the southern California markets and the Pacific Northwest. The
units heading west include GE's new, one-megawatt "Power in a Box(TM)"
system as well as a variety of stationary, natural gas powered 1 and 2
megawatt reciprocating engine systems.
"These low emission, compact and self-contained power plants are
designed to easily comply with environmental and zoning regulations,"
said Kabel. Additional advantages include mobility and speed of
installation. These units can go from order to delivery, installation
and operation in less than 30 days, while the siting and construction
of a large power plant takes several years.
"When a region such as the western U.S. needs cost effective,
immediate relief from energy volatility, our distributed power
solutions are an attractive and effective solution," noted Kabel.
