[0] DEVILS WIN EASILY WHILE KINGS LOAF : NEW JERSEY 4, KINGS 1.

Byline: Tim Trepany Daily News Staff Writer

If the Kings were office workers, they'd be the guys lingering around the water cooler after the work bell sounded, milking their lunch breaks for all they're worth.

Because that's apparently what they're doing with the All-Star break.

Scheduled to go back to work after enjoying five days off because of the traditional midseason break, the Kings stole some extra time off Tuesday.

With the Kings loafing, the New Jersey Devils The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey. They are members of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Devils have won the Stanley Cup three times, in 1995, 2000, and 2003.  scored an easy 4-1 victory before an announced 11,511 fans at the Forum.

The loss snapped the five-game unbeaten streak the Kings put together before the all-star game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games .

Left wing Dave Andreychuk David John "Dave" Andreychuk (Born 29 September, 1963, in Hamilton, Ontario)[1] is a former professional hockey left winger who played in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning.  had two goals, center Bobby Holik Robert Holik (born January 1, 1971 in Jihlava, Czech Republic) is a professional ice hockey player for the Atlanta Thrashers. He began playing in the NHL after being selected tenth overall by the Hartford Whalers in the 1989 entry draft.  had one goal and two assists, and defenseman Scott Stevens For other persons named Scott Stevens, see Scott Stevens (disambiguation).

capped the Devils' scoring at 10 minutes, 27 seconds of the third period.

The Kings, meanwhile, had few real scoring chances and their power-play was ineffective. They were 0 for 4 with the man advantage, which shouldn't be surprising because they were ranked last in the NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  in that category (12.3 percent).

They avoided being shutout for the eighth time when Ian Laperriere collected a rebound off Aki Berg's shot and beat goalie Martin Brodeur at 13:52 of the third.

The Kings were buried early, falling behind 3-0 in the first period.

The Devils' third goal was as soft as they come, with Holik one-timing a pass from the right circle and beating Stephane Fiset high on the short side, a fundamental mistake by the goalie.

Andreychuk scored the Devils' first two goals. He took a pass from Holik on a two-on-one and beat Fiset from the slot at 6:09, then had the puck deflect off his skate and into the net at 14:44.

Stevens took a soft shot from the right point. Holik tipped it toward the net, where it bounced off the skate of Andreychuck, who was tied up with Kings defenseman Jan Vopat in front, and through Fiset's legs.

Brodeur made 33 saves in improving his record to 19-11-5.

The Kings' best scoring chances came when defenseman Mattias Norstrom hit the left post during the third period and Yanic Perreault hit the right post during the second period. Perreault's shot almost trickled in, but Brodeur covered it.

Kings notes: Defenseman Sean O'Donnell was activated after spending the previous nine games on injured reserve with a sprained left wrist. To make room for him on the 24-man roster, defenseman John Slaney was put on waivers for the purposes of assigning him to International Hockey League Presently, one ice hockey league is using the name International Hockey League:
