Debra Blanchard, coach of the Victor Valley College Victor Valley College (VVC for short) is a community college located on Bear Valley Road in Victorville, California.

The college was created by a vote of the public in 1960 and the first classes were held in 1961 at the near-by campus of Victor Valley High School.

``It's very strange,'' said a tearful Blanchard, after her team's 106-65 loss to COC in a California Community College regional semifinal.

The Cougars play host to Cerritos at 7 Friday night in a regional final, with a state-championship berth in Stockton at stake for both teams.

``I wish (COC head coach) Greg (Herrick) all the best,'' she said. ``They have a really good team and they deserve to win.''

The Master's College History
The Master's College was founded as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary on May 25, 1927 to meet the need for a fundamental Baptist school on the West Coast.

Perhaps the biggest reason why the women's basketball team will contend for a national championship is the Mustangs' defense.

The Master's opponents combined to shoot just 33.9 percent from the field for the regular season. The Mustangs also were aggressive on the defensive end, allowing 649 turnovers, an average of 25 per game.

The Mustangs also outrebounded their opponents by an average margin of 46-34. Finally, teams averaged just 56.2 points in 26 games.

HIGH SCHOOLS

Canyon

The softball team finished fourth last year in the always-competitive Foothill League, and the Cowboys should be in the mix for a playoff spot again this season.

Canyon returns pitchers Shiloh Klein, a senior who can also play outfield, and Jennifer Henderson, a junior.

Nikki Lepine, whom first-year coach Terry French calls the team's best athlete, will move from catcher to shortstop, and the Cowboys will also be helped by freshman catcher Jennifer French and junior first baseman/outfielder Heather Beswick, a junior varsity junior varsity

The freshman baseball team will be hard-pressed to match last year's 22-0-1 record, but this season's team figures to be similarly talented and deep under coaches John Alesia and Patrick Cota.

If nothing else, the Indians might have genetics on their side. Steve Susdorf, younger brother of varsity standout Bill Susdorf, will be a pitcher/outfielder for the freshmen.

The Indians are deep in the infield, with Ben Edwards, Josh Ortega, Garrett Swailes, Nick Thomas, Cole Valancius and Robert Wright contending for playing time.

Coming into his first year with the baseball team, baseball coach Casey Burrill knew he had a talented group of seniors who would like to improve on last year's finish.

He didn't realize he also had one of the area's more talented juniors in shortstop Josh Fogel, who has impressed both teammates and college coaches with his fielding ability.

Fogel, who already has received interest from schools like Arizona State, has a lot to prove. He must show he can hit consistently enough to be considered a top prospect for next year.
