Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. It is operated by the Antelope Valley Community College District, with a primary service area of 1,945 square miles covering portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.  Led by Kristel Jones, the women's basketball team opened play in the Fullerton tournament Wednesday against Irvine Valley.

Jones, a Palmdale High graduate, averages a team-high 15 points per game and is second in rebounding with 7 per game.

The 5-foot-8 freshman guard has led the Marauders (8-6) in scoring in 10 of 16 games, including career highs of 20 points in games against Napa Valley and Riverside.

Antelope Valley

Former Antelopes star Vince Sandoval, now an offensive lineman at Oregon State, will be in action Sunday when the Beavers play Nortre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

Sandoval has been a key blocker for running back Ken Simonton, one of the nation's leading rushers.

Highland

The Cal State Northridge men's basketball team hosted Vanguard University on Wednesday night, with Highland graduate John Burrell.

Burrell is the team's third-leading scorer, averaging 14.1 points per game. Northridge begins its Big Sky Conference schedule Thursday with a game at Weber State.

The Eagles wrestling team gets its final preparation for Golden League competition during the next couple days. Lancaster competes in the Upland tournament today and Friday. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. both days at Upland High.

Quartz Hill

Olaya Salazar could get playing time this season for the University of San Diego softball team. Salazar was a standout catcher at Quartz Hill, helping the Rebels to a 1998 Southern Section championship.
