The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  Olympic team goalie Tom Barrasso Thomas Patrick Barrasso (born March 31, 1965 in Boston, Massachusetts) is a former National Hockey League goaltender who played 18 seasons for the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators, Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues.  stopped 19 shots as the Carolina Hurricanes snapped Anaheim's six-game winning streak, 4-1 Friday night at the Pond.

A crowd of 10,589 watched the Ducks (20-30-6-3) lose for the first time since their 4-2 setback to the visiting Kings on Jan. 21.

It appeared early that Anaheim might match its nine-year franchise-best winning string when first-line left wing Mike Leclerc capped a splendid shift with a goal less than four minutes into the game. Leclerc's 17th goal of the season was assisted by Paul Kariya and Andy McDonald.

All three Anaheim players on the top line are averaging more than a point per game of late. Leclerc has nine points (five goals) in eight games; Kariya has seven points (five goals) in six games; and McDonald, a rookie, has eight points (one goals) in seven games.

However, the Hurricanes (24-20-11-5), winners of just one of their last 10 games entering the contest (1-6-3), relied on their most seasoned players.

Brind'Amour, playing in his 13th season and 962nd NHL game, tied the game when he slipped past Anaheim's defense and forwards and wristed home a shot past Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere with 1:01 left in the first period.

Brind'Amour, however, left the game with 7:30 left in the second period when Anaheim center Samuel Pahlsson's stick cut Brind'Amour's left eye near the bridge of the nose. Brind'Amour was helped off the ice by a Carolina team trainer after leaving a pool of blood in the right portion of the right face off circle.

Carolina didn't capitalize on the four-minute penalty to Pahlsson, however, Francis did give his team the lead 12 seconds after Pahlsson's penalty expired.

Anaheim, seemingly content with its impressive penalty kill, forgot to check Francis and the 21-year veteran of 1,549 games entered the slot and easily beat Giguere with a low wrist shot with 3:18 left in the second period. Francis' goal with 6:37 left in the game gave Carolina a three-goal lead.

The rest was left up to Barrasso, who had a relatively easy night, despite the fact Carolina was playing its second game in two nights.
