[0] ANGELS BEAT TIGERS IN BATTLE OF THE BAD : ANGELS 6, KANSAS CITY 5.

Byline: Joe Haakenson Staff Writer

It was giveaway night at Edison Field on Monday night.

But that should come as no surprise - the Angels and Detroit Tigers The Detroit Tigers are a professional baseball team based in Detroit, Michigan. The Tigers are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the Tigers have played in Comerica Park.  have been giving away games all season. Going into the game, the Tigers were tied with the Kansas City Royals The Kansas City Royals are a professional baseball team based in Kansas City, Missouri. From to the present, the Royals have played in Kauffman Stadium.  for the worst record in the majors, and the Angels were only one game better.

So right on cue, the two last-place teams gave 17,145 brave fans what they should have expected all along: bad baseball.

However, because the rules say there are no ties in baseball, somebody had to win. Matt Walbeck's RBI RBI

Appropriately enough, neither team won the series. The Tigers and Angels split the four-game series.

Angels closer Troy Percival Troy Eugene Percival (born August 9, 1969 in Fontana, California) is a Major League Baseball reliever on the St. Louis Cardinals. Percival came out of retirement on June 8, 2007 when he signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals[1].  (3-2) pitched 1-1/3 innings to get the win over Tigers reliever Doug Brocail Douglas Keith Brocail (born May 16th, 1967 in Clearfield, Pennsylvania) is an American baseball pitcher for the San Diego Padres.  (4-4). Anderson had four hits to match a season high accomplished three other times.

``Finally, we got a base hit with a runner in scoring position,'' Angels manager Terry Collins said of Walbeck's game-winner. ``Matty got a ball that found a hole.''

``I was fortunate to be in that situation,'' said Walbeck, who has lost significant playing time since the call-up of Ben Molina. ``I was trying to hit the ball to right-center and I got just enough wood on the ball and hit it exactly where I wanted to.''

Tigers pitcher Dave Borkowski wasted no time getting into a giving mood. Borkowski committed three errors - in the first two innings - to tie a Tigers club record. The errors led to three unearned runs.

Borkowski's problems started when Angels leadoff hitter Trent Durrington began the first inning with a comebacker that Borkowski couldn't handle (error No. 1).

Borkowski then threw the ball away on a pickoff pick·off

attempt, allowing Durrington to take second (error No. 2). Durrington came around to score on Mo Vaughn's RBI groundout.

In the second inning, the Angels had runners on first and second with nobody out, but Troy Glaus hit a one-hopper back to Borkowski, setting up a certain double play.

Only Borkowski's throw to second sailed wide of the bag and into center field, allowing Anderson to score from second (error No. 3).
