[0] A GALAXY OF GOALS : GALAXY 4, SANT. LAGUNA 1.

Byline: Patrick Hipes Daily News Staff Writer

The Galaxy goal parade continued Wednesday, thanks to more than a bit of foreign intelligence.

El Salvador's Mauricio Cienfuegos Mauricio Cienfuegos (born February 12, 1968 in San Salvador, El Salvador) is a retired Salvadoran football (soccer) player.

Cienfuegos turned professional in 1985, and played his first season for Racing Junior of his native El Salvador.
, Ecuador's Eduardo Hurtado Eduardo Hurtado Roa (born January 12, 1969, in Esmeraldas, Ecuador) is a footballer who plays as a striker. He has the record of being one of the all-time leading scorers for the Ecuador national football team with 26 goals in 74 caps. , Guatemala's Martin Machon and Brazil's Welton scored second-half goals, leading the Galaxy to its eighth consecutive victory, a 4-1 trouncing of Mexican First Division team Santos Laguna.

The nonleague victory, in front of 10,271 at the Rose Bowl, gives the Galaxy a quarterfinal berth in the CONCACAF CONCACAF Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (Soccer)
CONCACAF Confederacion Norte, Centroamericana y del Caribe de Futbol Asociacion (Spanish)

As importantly, it gives the team and fledgling Major League Soccer needed credibility with other teams in CONCACAF, a federation which spreads from North and Central America Central America, narrow, southernmost region (c.202,200 sq mi/523,698 sq km) of North America, linked to South America at Colombia. It separates the Caribbean from the Pacific.  to the Caribbean.

``This is a good team,'' Galaxy coach Octavio Zambrano said of Santos, which won the first-half championship in Mexico last year. ``Some people think that we just play for fun when Mexican teams come here (in exhibitions), but it's not all for the fun of it.

``It's for prestige and a little bit of money, so teams come out to play.''

The Cup winner will receive $125,000, while the runner-up gets $60,000. Not bad, but nothing compared to numbers being tossed around throughout the world, like Ronaldo's $27 million transfer fee to Inter Milan last month.

Some Galaxy players complained after the game, saying MLS See multilevel security.  should contribute more for its two competing teams, the Galaxy and D.C. United.

``They gave us something, but it was nothing really,'' said Machon, who scored the Galaxy's third goal off a pass from Cienfuegos in the 80th minute. ``We let them know that if they want us to play another game, there has to be some incentive, like everywhere else in the world.''

Compensated or not, the Galaxy once again outshot and outplayed its opponent. Cienfuegos and Hurtado scored goals one minute apart for a 2-0 lead by the 65th minute, and Welton's fifth goal in six games in the 84th minute gave the team it's third four-goal game since Octavio Zambrano took over as coach 11 games ago.
