: Homes: The rise and rise of urban living.Byline: Barry Turnbull A NUMBER of eye-catching additions to the city skyline are rapidly taking shape as Liverpool's city centre living revolution enters a new phase. The Beetham Tower Beetham Tower is a name shared by several high-rise buildings in separate cities in the United Kingdom, financed and owned by the Beetham Organization. They are primarily residential buildings, but two also have hotel and conference facilities. in Old Hall Street and the X-Building in nearby Bixteth Street are just two more examples of the buoyant residential market. Both buy-to-let and owner occupier purchasers are queuing up to sample the range of offerings in the heart of the city and the waterfront areas. Not so long ago the trend for urban redevelopment mushroomed in Manchester but now Liverpool is on the march and fast catching up. Beetham's Old Hall Street Tower, on the site of the former St Paul's Eye Hospital, is certainly an eye-opener. There are 126 apartments and nine exclusive penthouses in the new tower which, at 30 storeys, is set to be the tallest new residential building in the North West. The tower is linked to the new Radisson SAS (1) (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, www.sas.com) A software company that specializes in data warehousing and decision support software based on the SAS System. Founded in 1976, SAS is one of the world's largest privately held software companies. See SAS System. Hotel, which is also under construction. Completion of the project is on target for early 2004 and is the largest building project currently under way in Liverpool. The top apartment on the 29th and 30th floor will be sold for in excess of pounds 1m setting a new record for Liverpool city centre apartment prices. Residents who will live in the tower will also have the use of the new exclusive Radisson SAS health club and spa, which includes a swimming pool. The hotel will be the first five star hotel to open in Liverpool. The Beetham Organisation is holding a public launch preview for the development on Thursday, July 25, at the Platinum Lounge - which is situated at Beetham Plaza, 25 The Strand, Liverpool - between 5pm-8pm.
